Joan (Carpenter) Sailer, 64, of Barefoot Bay, Florida formerly of Thompson, died Friday in Florida after an illness. She was the wife of Cornelius Sailer. She was born March 1, 1944 in Southbridge, MA, daughter of Isidore and Patricia Cote. Joan had made her home in Thompson for many years, moving to Florida in 2004. She had worked in the kitchen at the Matulaitis Nursing Home. She was very devoted to her weekly prayer meetings and was a Eucharistic Minister at her church in Florida. She leaves in addition to her husband; her children: Becky Benoit of Thompson; Sarah Brown of Coventry; Rachel Carpenter of Thompson; Mary Carpenter of Putnam; her siblings: Susan Dumas of Thompson; Rene Cote of Warren MA; James Cote of Woodstock; grandchildren: David; Joshua, Jillian; Timothy; Emma; great grandchildren: twins - Ezekiel and Isaiah. Her former husband Ron Carpenter of Thompson and many nephews. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM in the East Union Cemetery, Union, CT. Calling Hours will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society 106 Route 32, Franklin, CT, 06254.
