You were ever the standard of my life. The comparisons to you were constant; I preferred the comparisons of character. We shared a hero, a love of nature, and art....animals and education. I will think of you often, and with immense affection and respect.... when I am at Bafflin, or the Wadsworth... contemplating my liver surgery scars...or writing for a college prof. I am blessed to have had your influence.

Edith and I were together for four years at Simmons where we lived in a small resident hall. with about sixteen other students. We had great times worrying about exams and papers and playing bridge to forget about those almost overdue assignments. Edith and I also shared an apartment for a year after graduation when both of us were studying for graduate degrees in library science. I hosted my wedding rehearsal dinner in that apartment.(Take out Chinese) I guess weddings are a bit more elaborate these days.Edith was a bridesmaid in the wedding and did a great job helping me to fashion a wedding veil. I loved to listen to Edie's stories about her youth in Connecticut and her pets especially her dog and goose. No one could identify wild flowers as well as Edith. I will miss her always.

Sharing a room for four years at Simmons College, Boston, with countless memories of day-to-day living and Edith's marvelous wit and humour. Her love of nature and wildlife which she continued to share throughout her life. Her love of language and literature. The many good times and catch-up sessions during my visits to Boston over the years (I have been living in Ireland since 1973). Her special way of seeing aspects of living -- most especially her love of birds and birdlife -- and her unique ability to tweak her observations into a special moment for us all. I will miss her very much.

Edith and I shared a love of nature and we both enjoyed reading May Sarton, a writer whom I would like to quote:
"On Tuesday the heat wave broken by blessed rain, and yesterday the air was clear at last. It was wonderful to walk through all the wetness, brushing through tall tasseled grasses as we went down the path, everything with that after-rain sheen on it.
...Altogether a fine day."
Edith and I spent many of fine days together. Memories I will cherish.
God Bless

My condolences to Edith's family and friends for the loss of this gentle lady. I worked with Edith at the Countway Library of Medicine for three years and remember her conscientious approach to government documents questions from our patrons.

Dearest Aunt Edith,
Some of my most cherished childhood memories are of your visits home to Connecticut. Hanging gingerbread men and popcorn garlands on the Christmas tree with Grandma Kimball; sitting crosslegged on the floor sipping your homemade hot cocoa. Thankyou for opening my eyes to the world through your love of the written word, music, wildlife, flowers and so many simple joys in life. From the works of Walt Whitman, Dickens, Tolkien... your love is now passed down to my children. May you find peace and comfort now. God Bless you, you will be missed.
