Obituary of Alfred Parker Sheldon

Alfred Parker Sheldon, 87 of Providence Pike, Putnam, died Sunday, at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. Beloved husband of Helen (Gibson) Sheldon for 61 years. Born in South Woodstock, March 9, 1921, son of the late Fred and Jennie (Nelson) Sheldon. He worked for Place Motors delivering fuel oil and also worked for the State of Connecticut on highway maintenance, he retired in 1984 and then worked for the Woodstock Fair in Woodstock. He was a member of the Putnam zoning board and was president of Quassett Cemetery Association. Alfred loved to go fishing, loved to play cards, was an avid Red Sox fan and Uconn Connecticut girls basketball fan. He leaves his wife Helen, his son Alan Alfred Sheldon, a brother Robert Ellsworth Sheldon of North Grosvenordale , grandchildren, Jason Sheldon of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jeff Sheldon of Thompson, Angela Sheldon of Putnam, great granddaughter, Alexi Sheldon of Myrtle Beach, SC. He was predeceased by his siblings, Charles, Beatrice Harrington, Bernice Peckham, Melba Sirrine, Stanley, Hazel Frost, Wayland, Frank, Ida Cozzens, Ella Marshall, Harriet Sellig and Jennie Wrobel. Donations may be made in his memory to NECT Hospice or DKH Alzheimer's Program, both at PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260. Calling hours will be Saturday, September 13th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM with a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam.
