My father, Raymond, was in the 2nd Ranger Battalion with Gerald. On Dec 7, 1944 an officer ordered Gerald to charge alone across an open field into enemy fire. No one else he asked would obey, but Gerald did. He was promptly shot in the stomach. This lit a fire in the other men. Two companies rose and charged into mortar and machine gun fire taking Hill 400 in Bergstein, Germany. I can see why Gerald received so many decorations. He was quite a guy back then. In great regards, Chris
