Obituary of Winifred Gould Lewis
Winifred Lewis, 96, of Tatem Street, Putnam, died Sunday October 26, 2008 at Westview Health Care Center in Dayville. She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Lewis, he died in 1978. She was born December 14, 1911 in Putnam, daughter of the late Arthur and Mabel (Bates) Gould.
She made her home in the Thompson, Rogers and Putnam areas, a member of the Congregational Church of Putnam. She was dedicated to raising her children and caring for her family and caring for her mother for over 20 years. She was known as the caretaker of her neighborhood. She enjoyed sewing and knitting and most of all cooking and was active with the PTA for many years.
She leaves her sons: Arthur Gould Lewis of Thompson; Francis Edward Lewis of Dayville; Robert Henry Lewis of Worcester; Joseph Lawrence Lewis of South Killingly, daughters: Bertha Irene Sullivan of Elyria, OH; Mabel Louise Brisson of Danielson, Mary Louise Rhault of Moosup, 25 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, predeceased by son Dean Lewis, brothers: Charles Gould, Joseph Bates Gould, sister Clara Ogozalick.
Calling Hours will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, followed by a Funeral Service at 6:00 PM. Burial will be Saturday at 10:00 AM at the New Scotland Cemetery, Route 97, Scotland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Westview Heath Care Center, Recreation Fund, PO Box 428, Dayville, CT 06241.
