Obituary of Jennie S. Owens
Jennie S. Owens, 88, of Ashford Road, Eastford, died Saturday at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. She was the wife of John Roy Owens, they were married in 1957. She was born January 17, 1920 in New York City, Alexander and Emilia (Kazusrka) Shishko. She had made her home in Eastford for the last fifty years. Jennie was a Professor at the Connecticut State Teachers College (Eastern Connecticut State University) in Willimantic for twenty years, she also taught school in Pomfret and Phoenixville. She leaves her husband; step-son: Jack Owens of Harmony, RI; step-daughter: Sandra Callender of Seattle, WA; a sister: Nadgy Verrillo of Simsbury; four grand children and two great grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday, November 29th at 12:00 NOON the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam with the Rev William Shishko officiating. Burial will follow in Grove Street Cemetery, Putnam. www.smithandwalkerfh.com
