Obituary of Edward Navarro

Edward Navarro, 77, of Pomfret, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center from injuries in an automobile accident. He was the beloved husband of M. Anne (Nelson) Navarro, they were married July 30, 1954. He was born June 29, 1931 in Thompson, son of the late Saboto and Jennie (Leo) Navarro. He made his home in Pomfret most of his life, spending his youth in North Grosvenordale. He was a communicant of Most Holy Trinity Church in Pomfret. He was a graduate of the Putnam Trade School with a trade in Carpentry. After working for construction companies in the Harford area for several years, Ed took a job as a groundman with (CL& P) Northeast Utilities where he worked for thirty nine years. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the US Airforce and later with the CT National Guard. Ed enjoyed playing golf and cards, a member of the Quinnatisset Country Club for many years, the American Legion Grosvenordale, the Putnam Lodge of Elks and the Pomfret Lions Club. He also enjoyed caring for his grandchildren, and spending time with family and friends. He always valued and took pride in his community service. In addition to his wife Anne of 54 years, he leaves his children: Jan and Tom ST Jean of Pomfret; Jane Navarro of Putnam; John and Brenda Navarro of Pomfret Center; Joan and Scott Grenon of Hampton; Jim Navarro of Pomfret Center; his siblings: Angelo Navarro of Putnam; Lena Deotte of Putnam; Daniel Navarro of Pompano Beach, FL; John Navarro of Killingly; Raymond Navarro of Pomfret, his grandchildren: Matt, Jon, Jennie, Emily, Dylan, Hannah, Alex, Sammy, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, David, Rocko, Anthony, Joseph, Salvatore. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 19, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Most Holy Trinity Church, 568 Pomfret Street, Pomfret.Calling hours Sunday, January 18, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852, or to the charity of one's choice.
