Obituary of Catherine May Leeman

PUTNAM - Catherine May (Smith) Leeman, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 6, 2009 at the Lanessa Extended Care in Webster, MA, where she has made her home. She was born in Putnam, March 11, 1929, daughter of the late Stephen H. & Lillian Smith, Sr. Catherine was a graduate of Putnam High School, Class of 1947 and lived on a farm in Putnam for most of her life. Catherine worked for the Southern New England Telephone Co. and Wellington Curtain Co. Catherine belonged to the CT District #1 Vasa Order of America and she was a District Master. She also belonged to local Viking Lodge #621, she held various offices and was chairman for many years. She was a dedicated member, as her Finnish Heritage meant a lot to her. She made two trips to Finland in her lifetime to visit friends and relatives. Family was a number one priority in Catherine's life. She was predeceased by her husband, Al Leeman, a sister, Esther Smith and a brother, John Smith, Sr. She leaves behind her two sons, Michael and Hilton Kaskela, a step-daughter, Linda Myhre, a brother, Stephen H. Smith, Jr. and a number of grand children, great-grand children, nieces and nephews. Calling hours Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Smith Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam.
