Our Sympathy to all of you for your loss. He was a great man and always had a smile for all. I enjoyed his company many times when he would visit the greenhouses after he sold them. It was our pleasure to have known him.

Albert had a special sparkle in his eye, and he made me feel a part of the family. I remember when he & Auntie Bea came out to visit with Charlie and me in Seattle, he was very dapper in his jacket and dress slacks. The Northwest weather did not suit him though. He could not get warm. Something about our moderate temps and overcast skies were more of a challenge than all those cold New England winters Albert lived through!

Condolences to the entire family. Albert Buell created some of the most beautiful gloxinia hybrids ever seen. He was always a pleasant convention guest and I had the pleasure of dining with he and his lovely wife many times. He was always willing to share knowledge of his favorite plant family. God will bless him.

Albert was a very special friend and one of the most interesting persons that we have ever met. He always had a good story that made us laugh and feel better after spending time with him. To say Albert, was his own "Man" would be an understatement, his ability to recall past events were well
known to all who knew him.
Albert you will truly be missed.
With fondest memories.

To Dottie, my dearest & oldest friend and family members. What fond memories of growing up in Eastford around the "bandstand" with our dads. So sorry to hear of the loss of your dad but know his homegoing is a blessing. You're in our thoughts & prayers!

Mr. Buell was one of the nicest people I ever met. We
lived in the log cabin behind
his house. I remember well the
blizzard of 78 when he came up
the hill with his back hoe to
dig us out. He was a good man.

I maintain a blog almost daily and yet when it comes time to write something here in remembrance of my dad, I am almost at a loss for words.
I had always seen him as someone that had forgotten more than I would ever know. At some point (most likely not until I was in my 50’s) I came to realize that that was not as true as it used to be, and I feel it was this “sense of him” that I had, that pushed me so hard to learn as much as I could learn as well.
He taught me that there is no reason to not tackle anything that I wanted to do and to fill my life with as many experiences as possible----this is how one gets to that magic place of being able to forget some of the things we have learned to make room for more. He had many great traveling experiences and accomplished many things over the course of his life. He also had many challenges in his life and some of those challenges manifested in challenges for those around him. But isn’t that how life is? How we each deal with the challenges of our lives speaks more to how we are as human beings than all the things that we do or forget.
It is easier to have “pictures” of how our lives “should have been” than it is to own the reality of experiencing it the way that it is. We can only define “love” within the constraints of our own experiences. At some point I came to recognize how much he loved me and my brother and sister----in his own way----his own special type of “green thumb.”
In some way he is still traveling on.

I am so sorry to hear of Alberts death. I worked for him in the mid 50s. Charlie may remember our camping trp to Calif to the national gloxinia conv in the 50s. We worked the flower shows and I
helped him write a few articles on gloxinias. I have great memories working at the nursery and the many friends in plants and gardens I met there including Elvin McDonald. He was a great boss and good friend.
