Obituary of Irving I. Andert
Irving I. Andert, 91, of Andert Dr., Pomfret Center, CT, died Friday at Douglas Manor in Windham. He was the beloved husband of Evelyn Andert, they were married April 21, 1951. He was born September 29, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Joseph L. and Celia (Altschuler) Andert.
He has made his home in Eastford since 1921, a veteran of WW II serving with the US Army. He was a charter member of the Eastford Independent Fire Company. Irving owned and operated a Dairy Farm for over thirty years; in 1961 he opened a flooring business "Andert Carpet Service" in Eastford, until his retirement in 1990. Irving was a well known Square Dance Caller from the age of seven, calling his last dance at his 90th Birthday party. He was an avid reader, enjoyed hunting and fishing. He traveled with his wife throughout the world in their retirement. Irving always had a joke or a good story to tell you.
He leaves his wife Evelyn, his children: Nancy Marmat and her husband Jerry of Eastford; Joseph Andert and his companion Carla of Eastford; Donald Andert and his wife Leslie of Suwanee, GA; Michael Andert and his wife Laura of Eastford; his grandchildren: Clayton; Kaitlin; Rachel; Olivia; Nichole. He was predeceased by his siblings Solomon and Sarah.
A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the Grove Cemetery, Route 198, Eastford, with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Irving's memory to the Eastford Independent Fire Company, PO Box 222, Eastford, CT 06242. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, Putnam is directing arrangements.
