She then went to work as a homemaker and raising her children. Later on, she returned to work for a short time as an RN for Matulaitis Nursing Home. Her nursing call was always in her blood as she cared for her family, friends and neighbors as well as her church family all her life. There was never a moment she wasn't helping someone. She grew up attending the Evangelical Covenant Church in Woodstock and became a member as an adult. She was a beloved Sunday School teacher, VBS teacher, youth leader and held several offices. Phyllis loved all children, especially her grandchildren. Phyllis was always fun loving, enjoying the Swedish traditions surrounding Christmas. She liked creating poems, making puzzles, baking, letter writing, being a wife and mother, grand mothering, and was a champion Apple Pie baker, and took the state title one year for one of her cakes. She could always be heard humming a hymn or chorus as she did her daily tasks. She now abides with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she adored most. She will be greatly missed by her family.
