Obituary of Miriam Rowley

Miriam Rowley, 96, of Woodstock, formerly of Southbridge, MA, died Monday at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. She was born January 26, 1913 in Worcester, MA, daughter of the late Frederick and Gertrude (Brown) Rowley. She worked for over 30 years as an Administrative Assistant in the Personnel Department at American Optical Co. in Southbridge. She retired in 1978. After her retirement she became a volunteer at the Day Kimball Hospital, she had 19,264 volunteer hours. She had a great love for Nature, a member of the National Audubon Society and the Natures Conservancy. She was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to public radio. Miriam was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She leaves nephews and nieces: Robert and his wife Carol Adams of Wakefield, RI; Geraldine Rowley-Ryan and her husband James of South Bradenton, FL; Bruce Sherman and his wife Cynthia of Woodstock; Sandra Tyler and her husband David of South Bradenton. She was predeceased by her siblings: Virginia, Rachel; Frederick; Hazel. Graveside service will be held Monday October 19, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Pleasant Street, Spencer, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the North Woodstock Library c/o Charles Cady, 81 Prospect Street, Woodstock, CT 06281. Arrangements by Smith and Walker Funeral Home, Putnam.
