Obituary of Lucius E. Arnold
Lucius E. Arnold, age 87, passed away at his home in Putnam on Sunday, March 27, 2011. Lucius was born on December 26, 1923 in Putnam. He was the son of Frank A. and Harriet (Fitts) Arnold.
Lucius is survived by his wife, Ann Patenaude, whom he married in 1962. He is also survived by his daughter, Katherine Croteau, her husband Seth and his three grandsons, Brenden, Justin and Ethan Croteau, all of Jewett City. Lucius is survived by a brother, Lester Arnold of Commerce City, CO, and a sister Louise Lauffer of Lake San Marcos, CA. He was predeceased by three brothers, Marshman, Warner and Philip.
Mr. Arnold began his banking career with the Cargill Trust Company in 1941, rising to Secretary, Treasurer and a Director. In 1964 the Cargill Trust Company was merged into Hartford National Bank & Trust Company where he served that bank as Assistant Vice President. In 1969 Mr. Arnold joined the Putnam Savings Bank and served in the capacity of Secretary, Treasurer, Trustee, Executive Vice President, President and Chairman of the Board, retiring in 1988. During his career Lucius served as Treasurer for many civic and charitable organizations during their annual fund drives. Mr. Arnold was Treasurer of the Woodstock Agricultural Society and cashiered the Woodstock Fair for many years. Mr. Arnold was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Eighth Air Force in England and the Air Transport Command in Africa.
