Obituary of Katherine Savage
Katherine Wickwire Savage, 86, of Eastford, former Director of RSVP in Brooklyn, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Pierce Baptist Nursing Home of Breast cancer. Beloved wife of John T. Savage; they were married August 24, 1950 in Hanover, IN. She was born April 23, 1926 in New Britain, daughter of Grant T. and Ruth (Bacon) Wickwire.
Katy attended Oberlin College for three years and graduated in 1948 from Hanover College. After graduating from Hanover, she worked for the YMCA in Cincinnati, Ohio as a program director. She married John Savage on August 24, 1950.
Katy is survived by her five children Virginia Beesley of Quinter, KS, Carol Savage of Plymouth, MN; Grant Savage of Birmingham AL; John H. Savage of Asbury Park, NJ; Robert Savage of New Canaan and ten grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews. Katy was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Woodstock where she sang in the choir and worked on the newsletter. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and attending Elder Hostels. Katy also edited and wrote for the Eastford Communicator for over a decade. She was predeceased by her brother, Franklin Wickwire and her husband.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Woodstock, Route 169, Woodstock, CT. A reception will follow.
