Obituary of Reverend Sylva P. LeCours

Reverend Sylva P. LeCours Retired priest of the Diocese of Norwich November 25, 1920 – February 16, 2015 Ballouville -- The Reverend Sylva P. LeCours, retired priest of the Diocese of Norwich, died Monday, February 16, 2015, in Windham, Connecticut. He was 94. Father LeCours is fondly remembered as a gifted, caring and joyful priest. Father LeCours was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, November 25, 1920, son of the late Lionel and Angelina LeCours. He prepared for the priesthood at the Marist Seminary in Framingham, and was ordained a priest on February 3, 1947 by Richard Cardinal Cushing, Archbishop of Boston, in Our Lady of Victories Church, Boston. Father LeCours came to the Diocese of Norwich in 1973, having served for many years as Pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Westerly, R.I. He served as associate pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Groton, CT, St. Edward Church in Stafford Springs and at the Cathedral of St. Patrick in Norwich before his appointment in June, 1983, to Pastor of St. Anne Church in Ballouville. Father LeCours retired from active ministry in August, 2008. Father LeCours is predeceased by his sister, Marguerite Danico. He leaves six nieces and nephews – Sandra Roche, Karen Glennon, Kelly Danico, Kevin Danico, Scott Danico, and Sean Danico. The Ceremony of the Vigil for the Deceased with Reception at the Church will take place on Friday, February 20, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. Following that ceremony, Father LeCours’ body will lie in state until 7:00 p.m. at St. James Church,12 Franklin Street, Danielson, Connecticut. A Parish Mass will be celebrated for his repose on Friday evening, February 20, at 7:00 p.m. at St. James Church, 12 Franklin Street, Danielson, Connecticut. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Most Reverend Michael R. Cote, Bishop of Norwich, on Saturday, February 21, at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Church. Interment will be Monday, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Cemetery, 892 Hilldale Ave., Haverhill, MA.
