Kathy is a part of my earliest memories.
Not having been born in a family with a sister, when Kathy started dating my big brother Johnnie and not long after married him, she became my sister.
I remember feeling entirely special when John and Kathy deigned to take me to the local C&E for a hamburger and milkshake. Many years later, Kathy and I laughed when she told me we had a dispute as to who was to take the center seat--in front of the radio and next to driver John--where I prevailed. It was important to be able to push the buttons between KFMB, KHJ and KRLA in order to catch that latest song you loved. You had to hear it as it was going by on the airwaves live or wait for your next chance.
When I was a little girl and saw Kathy dressed and ready to go to the prom with John, I felt certain that she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen, and was in my mind a dead ringer for Cinderella going to the ball. I was awestruck. Again, years later She and I laughed when she told me she was certain that I was going to crush her beautiful corsage flower when I tried to admire it in my child-like clumsiness. But I was enthralled. I knew she must be a real princess. I wanted to take her to the ball!
When Johnnie and Kathy got married, I was beyond honored that I had a place in the wedding party. With my cousin Debbie we solemnly and dutifully stepped up to the alter to light the candles for the ceremony. This consisted of screwing the flame shaped light bulbs into their sockets on the standing candelabra until they illuminated and then standing to the side to await the rest of the wedding party. Again, when Kathy walked down the aisle of the little chapel, I beheld a vision of splendor. She was stunning as a bride. And she was now, lawfully my sister. And I could not have been happier about that.
Kathy brought my beloved niece Katrina into the world and made me an aunt, a joy I had never imagined.
In the turbulence and upheaval that marked the 1970's Kathy and John divorced and subsequently in that decade and the next, life brought many changes: Kathy giving us my adorable nephew, Chris among them. In spite of everything, Kathy always maintained the close relationship she had formed with my family her entire life.
In the early 1980's, Kathy met Don and married him, and I married my husband. We became new mothers together when my first son was born and Kathy was expecting Ryan.
In spite of the tremendous distance between us geographically, there was never distance between our hearts. She saw to that. There was always a call or card for birthdays and holidays for me, my mother, and my father. Always. She never forgot. She always let us know how much we mattered to her in her life.
She will be profoundly missed.
I think she and I share the belief, that even though Kathy has left the material world to transition to the other side, she remains with us in spirit. She is here with us in this moment. She doesn't miss a thing. She will always be with us. In spite of how painful it is to let go of our loved ones, the best way we can honor them is to live our lives with as much joy as possible. I know in my heart that is what she wants for us.
May God bless us all.

As far back as I can remember, my sister was always someone I could talk with about old times, good times, and bad times. In 1958 I was 15 years old and she was about 9. Our next door neighbor, Helen Mary Williams, our landlord and school teacher, took us on a camping trip with a bunch of other people for a week in Wrightwood. We had the time of our lives. My sister would follow me where ever I went. We would raid the mess halls at night, taking all the candy, cookies, and ice-cream back to our tents. There are a ton of memories just like these shared with my sister. Kathy stayed with me most times growing up. We would play games, most of which we made up ourselves. I will truly miss my sister as it was just her and I left to remember these moments. We all have memories of people. Don’t hold onto them. Speak out about them. Share them with others so you don’t lose them.
With all my Love, your brother Kenny

Their truly are no words that describes how wonderful and precious my Aunts existence on this earth has been. For as long as I can remember, I have adored my Aunt Kathy. When I was a little girl, I wanted to be “just like her”. I saw her as a beautiful woman inside and out. Her personality compares to no other. She was intelligent, compassionate, gentle, talented, very wise, funny, and loving. I remember a time when I was around 9 years old and Katrina about 8, Aunt Kathy had picked us up from gymnastics and ballet. She sang Linda Ronstadt to us then made up her own words to “Looking for Love in all the wrong places”. She changed it to say, “Looking for food in all the wrong places, hoping to find a taco or a burger”…we must have been hungry! I only remember fun, loving moments with her. I was blessed to have had the opportunity to visit my family in Connecticut for Halloween a few years ago. My first night visiting she had me sit on her lap like a kid, she cracks me up! I can still feel her loving arms around me and hear her laugh. The love, respect, and admiration I have for my Aunt Kathy Harding will remain in my heart and memories forever. I pray for comfort and strength for everyone who will be missing her like I am.
With Love, forever and always,
Michele Ragsdale
