Hey my friend, sorry for taking so much time to respond to your death. So I’ll just try as hard as I can. So here goes. we were introduced by one of your close friends just about the time Angela was born and you impressed Whit and I. Whit and I were both working at DBH and were supposed to be in charge of the office yearly? Office party on an island in R. I. not far from Mystic. Bottom line: I had lost my driver’s license and Whit & 1st husband had a cottage at the beach. It was her move in day to cottage that day. Thanks to you, we were on time to catch the ferry…. You weren’t very happy so we hung at Center of island and did your thing. At the lobster dinner, you turned to me and asked if I knew Spooney. I said his wife works with me. Obviously after lobster you were done. On boat back home, your friend and my friend asked me if I had known you long? My reply was since college so my friend, just wanted you to know that me and Whit are having lunch with Nok & Anthony in April so rest easy. I got your 6??

I was truly saddened and stunned to hear of Rich's passing. We were fast friends in grade school and I was his teammate in the game Trip Kyle refers to (is there really a video of that?!!).
It was a great moment for us,coached by the great Bob Buckner! Were you on that team too,Salvatore?
We traveled through Europe in 1986,visiting his brothers in the Army in Germany, had a bizarre slow train ride through Yugoslavia and ended up in Istanbul for a week.It was quite memorable!
He certainly was what his wife says, generous, kind and a good friend.I hope to meet his son and wife one day. They sound like great folks.
With the the passing of both his parents recently,as well, the world has really lost some great ones.

I remember Rich from our early youth exploring the Hillside woods. Also from soccer and basketball. I was in the 5th grade basketball game that Trip Kyle spoke of and remember it like it was yesterday. Rich was a really nice and kind person... I have good memories of him. Rest in peace, Rich. -Class of '76

I just learned of Richard's passing. I went to school with Rich from the early years and also was a neighbor in Hastings. We played basketball and soccer together, were both pretty competitive, and scrapped a couple of times. He was talented, reliable -- a good teammate and friend.
Also, Rich was central in a memorable championship basketball game in 5th grade. With the score tied and no time left on the clock, Rich sunk a foul shot to win the game and was carried off by his teammates in front of a packed Hastings gym. This is actually captured on 16mm film, shot by my father, somewhere on the HHS alumni site. We all remember that small town moment.
I am sorry for your loss

We met Rich way back in the early eighties. He would become a cherished friend. His sense of loyalty as well as his generosity were unquestioned over the years, proven repeatedly throughout our years of friendship. Rich was a world class traveler, his many adventures were a delight to listen to. We remember when he met his beloved wife in Thailand. Rich was so proud of her, and later, their wonderful son Anthony. Nok and Anthony would enrich his life in ways that Rich had never dreamed of. His pride in them and his love for them grew with each and every day of their time together. We are so saddened to think of Nok and Anthony continuing their journey without him, they were the center of his universe. We will miss you Rich, you enriched our lives, we felt honored to be among your many friends. Our heartfelt sympathy go out to Nok and Anthony. Gone too soon Rich. The world is a poorer place without you. Not at all surprised to learn that you have gone on ahead, you always were the first to travel to, and to experience the treasures of distant shores.

17 years 3 months and 7 days-- that's how long we've known each other and how long we've spent our lives together.
Today I have experienced the biggest loss in my life. The loss of my beloved husband- the family leader who had dedicated himself all through the time that I had known him. The man whom l've learned lot from from, no to mention generosity to all people around him, even strangers. He had unfailingly practiced that all his life.
He used to apologize to me before he passed for having made my life complicated and difficult, but I said it's the opposite. He has changed my life for the better. He opened my life to the a whole new world. Most importantly, he gave me the most precious thing in his life as a keepsake. I remember the first birthday present I gave him was a wristwatch. He was teary saying no one had ever given him anything on his birthday: I was the the first person ever give him some thing that was so dear to his heart.
Today he doesn't have to fight with or feel tired from this malicious disease anymore. I am certain that everyone whose life he touched will remember him and miss him. Sleep well and rest in peace, DADDY. I promise I will take good care of our son Anthony to the best of my ability, which was your last wish. I will take you back to Thailand, the land that you loved.....the land that began both of journeys. I will love and cherish you till the day I draw my last breath---- you who passed into my life and passed on. Let me thank you for having given me great, unforgettable memories, and for fulfilling my life.
Love eternally,Mama

We are so very saddened to hear of Rich's passing. We shared some great times years ago. Rich took us to NYC one winter weekend...unknowingly that a blizzard was heading our way. We spent those days walking all over the city, struggling, through knee-high deep snow. He introduced us to one of our favorite foods- Indian. When he returned from one of his many far-away trips across the world, he would come tell us all about his adventures- and there were so many great stories! He was such a joy to be around, always so pleasant. His soft-tone Bronx accent will never be forgotten. Rich always spoke lovingly of his family, especially his young son. We will miss you dearly, old friend. Rest in peace. Our hearts go out to the family, you are in our prayers.

To Rich's family: I'm so sorry about Rich. He fought so hard to stay around longer with you.
I met Rich through friends in the old Coventry days- he was a tough New Yorker with a good heart and was always welcoming with his friends.
He spoke fondly of his parents, brothers and sisters, daughter and her family, and Nok and Anthony.
Can't believe he is gone now, too soon!
I will always remember Rich and miss him.

My greatest sympathies go out to you and your family. I am a teacher at WMS and I see Anthony in the hallways. He is always kind and respectful to young and old. His positive attitude shines through the day. Although I did not know his dad personally, he must have been a great person to have raised such a wonderful son. I am very, very sorry for your loss.
