Obituary of Carl F. Marohn

Danielson - Carl F. Marohn, Jr. was born December 4, 1921 and passed away on October 25, 2012. He graduated from Neenah High School in Neenah, Wisconsin in 1940 after which he served inWorld War II in the Philippines and New Guinea. During WWII he was in the Signal Core ("Company C") and later transferred into the United States Air Force. After he returned from the war he married his high school sweetheart Mildred Phoebe (Brien) Marohn on January 5, 1946 and had four children. They lived in Neenah, WI until 1958 when they relocated to New Milford, CT. He worked for Kimberly Clark for 42 years until his retirement in 1982. After his retirement he moved to Poultney, VT and traveled extensively with his wife in their motor home. Their last move was to Danielson, CT in 1990. Carl was always an active member of his church and community. He was head trustee of the United Methodist Church of New Milford for ten years. As a father he was active with the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, and playing cribbage. Recently he served as the chaplain at his local soup kitchen and as a member of the prayer chain and building committee of the United Methodist Church of Danielson, CT. He was a Lifetime Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4908 of Danielson. Carl was the son of Carl and Elsie (Bustrien) Marohn. He had a large and loving family including his wife Mildred who passed away in 2003 and their four children: Carla (Marohn) Van Guilder who passed away in 1986 and Harry Van Guilder of Roanoke, VA, Sandra (Marohn) and John Goodman of Shakopee, MN, Ronald and Katherine Marohn of Tolland, CT, and George Marohn and Loretta Vallely of New Milford, CT. Carl and Mildred had ten grandchildren: Dawn (Van Guilder) and Jon Huggins, Todd and Cindy Van Guilder, Stephen and Teresa Shanks, Mark and Kara Shanks, Christiane (Shanks) and Dave McCutcheon, Kimberly Marohn, Lori (Marohn) and Mike Kmec, Barbara Marohn, George JR and Kristy Marohn, and Sabrina Marohn. They were also blessed with twelve great-grandchildren: Carla and Jack Huggins, Benjamin and Tristan Shanks, Wyatt Keuchenmiester, Kacey Shanks, Katie and Maya McCutcheon, Christopher and Noah Marohn, Jaden Marohn, and Killian Marohn. Carl is survived by his sister, Margaret (Marohn) Schultz of Neenah, WI. Carl was preceded in death by his wife Mildred and daughter Carla as well as his grandson Christopher Matthew Marohn, his great grandson Matthew Michael Shanks, his siblings Mayme (Marohn) and Jack Driscoll, Henry and Vivian Marohn, Gertrude (Marohn) and Fritz Weight and Margaret's husband Norman Schultz. All are welcome to attend Carl's memorial service on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 11 A.M. at the United Methodist Church of Danielson, 9 Spring Street, Danielson, CT 06239.
