James C. Braaten, age 45 of Woodstock, died Wednesday morning in an auto accident in Orange, CT. He was born August 4, 1959 in Freeport, NY, son of the late Earl and Marion Braaten. James worked since 1990 as a tugboat crewman for Moran Towing.He served four years in the U S Coast Guard and was honorably discharged in 1982.He was a devoted Catholic. James made his home in Woodstock since 2000, a member of the Woodstock Fish and Game Club and the Quaboag Sportsmen Club in Warren, MA. He was an avid Hunter, Fisherman and enjoyed wood carving. He leaves two aunts: Ida Steen and Sister Diane Hearn, both of Florida, and 26 cousins. A memorial service will be Saturday March 12th at 2 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home 148 Grove Street, Putnam. No Calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to charity of donors choice.
