Obituary of Ronald N. Blackmer, Sr.
Ronald N. Blackmer, Sr., died Thursday morning at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Cheryl (Jones) Blackmer, they were married April 2, 1967 in Putnam. He was born December 30, 1940 in Putnam, son of the late Raymond and Bella (Lefebvre) Blackmer.
Ron worked construction and farming for many years, he retired from King Trucking Company in 1989. He enjoyed working outdoors and John Deere Tractors. He grew up in Pomfret and lived in Woodstock most of his life.
He leaves in addition to his wife Cheryl of 38 years, his children and their spouses: Ronald Blackmer and his wife Debby of Woodstock; Craig Blackmer and his wife Shannon of Pomfret; Diana Leonard and husband Joe of Woodstock; his five grandchildren: Kerri; Jennifer; Danielle; Steven and Hunter. His siblings: Margaret Peterson of Woodstock; Kenneth Blackmer of Woodstock; Wayne Blackmer of Sterling; Harmon Blackmer of Brooklyn; many nieces and nephews and his dog Baby. He was predeceased by his brothers: Raymond and Robert Blackmer and sister: Joan Carlson.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM with a prayer service at 3:30 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Burial in North Woodstock Cemetery.
