Suzanne Letters Evans posted a condolence
It was exciting news to our family that Auntie Grace had met a handsome man named Donald. The first time we met him was on vacation at Webster Lake. We liked him from the very beginning. Christine was just a toddler and I was married to Grace's brother Frank Gardner. We sat on the beach and got acquainted and our friendship developed in fine fashion.
After Frank died, I married and had a new husband (Al Evans) to introduce to Grace and Don. Don and Al hit it off right away and we have had many happy years of visits to each other's homes. We will sorely miss Donald, our old friend, and he will be in our prayers always.

I remember when Don and Grace were married at the Putnam Congregational Church in Putnam, Mr. Lion was touring the streets of Putnam that special day and he came across the street to join in the celebration of their wedding and posed for pictures with the new bride and groom on the church steps. I also remember vividly, the fun times we shared as a family particulary at the Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays. After having a sumptous afternoon dinner and opening many gifts from under the tree, we always ended up playing cards and singing together either at Mom's & Dad's house or Don's & Grace's house or at our house, Topper's and Barbara's. Phyl & Rich and all the grandchildren, Pam, Patty, Jeff and Scott joined in the fun of those special times together. The memories are long and lasting as our family looked forward to our special holidays together. Then our families enlarged to include great-grandchildren. Don and Grace acquired grand nieces Victoria, Carolyn, Brittany and Shanon and a grand nephew, little Zachary. I remember one day when I was baby sitting my grandson, Zachary, I took him for a walk in his stroller when he was about 2 yrs old and went over to visit Aunt Grace and Uncle Donald. Zachary was quite impressed with Charlie Brown, Uncle Donald's pet bird. So many good family memories. Stepping back in time, Don brought the family our first TV when he came home on leave when he was in the Air Force, that was pretty special, now we finally had a TV of our own.... and it was a black and white one and just perfect. And then the best of it all was when he bought us a "first time" new boiler for Mom and Dad's house. At last, no more kerosene pot burners to be filled and the comfort of heat in every room. Wow!!! Thanks Don. Loving Membories...Barbara & Topper
