Obituary of Alfred E. Walker

Alfred E. Walker, 71, of Mashamoquet Road, Pomfret, died unexpectedly Monday at Day Kimball Hospital as a result of complications from Lung Cancer. He was born October 13, 1934 in Mansfield. Alfred was a Boiler Technician employed by the University of Connecticut for 30 years before retiring in 1989 at age 55. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Air Force. He was a resident of the area all his life. He leaves his children, Mark Walker of Preston; Robert Walker of Central Village; Marylou Walker; Laurie Carmichael, both of Putnam, his companion Beatrice Beadle of Abington; brothers Mervin Walker; Arthur Webb, both of Kansas; a sister Doris Stafford of Michigan, five grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and many close friends, including all the wonderful friends from Briarlee Campground in Ashford. He was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Walker in 2001, a brother Clarence Walker. Calling hours will be Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam.
