I will always have some great memories of Grandma Martin. I would like to share a few of them. I recall my first Christmas with the Martin family. There was this weird mushy fish stuff, some kind of tradition I guess. It looked like a jelly fish, and I really didn't want to eat it. However, there looking at me was the sweetest and mildest women, and she said, "just try it, you'll love it". So...I dove in, well, it turns out that even with mashed potatoes and mustard, that stuff is not that good after all. I could see the small grin on Grandma's face as I winced and just tried to get it down. I wanted to say I loved it, but I just couldn't, it was horrible. I also won't forget one stay during the summer at Myrtle Beach S. Carolina. I hadn't seen Grandma Martin in some time, due to my service in the military. My father was telling me how Grandma's hearing wasn't as good as it had been. Well, as he was telling me, this terribly loud screaching noise penetrated the room from around the corner. Turns out, it was Grandma's hearing aid. At that point no more explanation was needed. I knew exactly why Grandma wasn't hearing well. She couldn't hear anything over that ear piece. My family and I are honored to have had our lives touched by her and she will live forever in our memories. We love you Grandma and we will see you again some day.

Living on the farm was great. Some fond memories I have are swimming in the pond, ice skating, picking and husking corn by the bushels to freeze, and going to the Cape with the family. Love Eleanor

Interfaith Stitchers posted a condolence
Our sympathies go out to the family of your loved one, Hedvig. She was so thoughtful and loving to every one she knew. We, at Interfaith Stitchers, loved all of the wonderful things she knitted for the needy in the community. I remember when she came to our meeting with a finished preemie sized sweater she made. She asked me if the pattern had a mistake in it because it turned out so small. I smiled and said to her "No mistake my dear, some preemie babies are born very tiny and it will indeed fit one of them." She went home and continued to make more of them for us to distribute. Thank you for sharing her with us and giving us the chance to get to know her a little bit.
Very truly yours,
Cecile Cloutier

There's a rose that blooms
in the valley of love
That's more precious than any other
Because that deep red rose
is a reminder to us
of a wonderful wife & mother
This rose will bloom
till the end of time
it will never need tending
or care
Because the life she lived
was so filled with love
in the time that she spent
here
Now she leaves this place
and we cry and grieve
Still her wonderful deeds stay the same
She is alive in the hearts
of all those she touched
For such wonderful memories remain. P Boutillette
Len & Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of deep sadness.

My Gramma, I think of her knitting. Playing Frisbee with me when I was three. My Gramma took care of me after school and made me 5 course meals and made sure I drank my milk. She sang me lullaby's like Mary had a little lamb. I remember her pushing me on a swing and I loved it. One of the scarist moments I ever had is when she broke her arm. When my Gramma went to the hosipital, the last thing I said was good by. I'm not sad that she's dead because she is in heaven. Love Nils

What a joy when Hedvig joined our Shawl Ministry at the First Congreational Church in Oxford, MA As the founder of the Ministry, it was truly a pleasure to know her. She was loved by each member very much. She made three shawls; one went to a family in Beslin, Russia who lost a child in a school shooting, another to a cancer patient and one to a tornado victim from the Evansville Cong. Church in Indiana. Being Norwegian, she and I shared stories of our Scandinavian heritage. I am sure that you will all miss her very much. My husband was raised in a foster home and her outpouring affection for children is truly a blessing. I have two recent photos of her at my home on Webster Lake during a Shawl Ministry meeting. Please let me know where I can sent them. I'm sure you would like to have them. She was doing the Lord's work even at the age of ninety-four. God Bless You.

Hedvig Martin was a wonderful, caring person. As you said when I saw you recently, Leonard, she was a saint. My first memory of her was when I was 9 yrs. old and joined her 4-H club. She taught us so much - homemaking skills, but also how to be a lady - and mostly by example! My last memory of Hedvig was talking with her at Ladies Ben. Soc. meetings and luncheons. It was always nice to see her. Won't forget her smile ever. Ken and I wish to extend our sincere sympathy to all of you - Leonard, Anne, Leonard Jr., George, and Mona and your families.
