Obituary of Hedvig Anna Martin

Hedvig Anna Okeson Martin, 94, of Woodstock, CT, passed away at Day Kimball Hospital on November 29, 2005. Mrs. Martin was born in Sweden on February 25, 1911. She emigrated to the United States in 1928. She married Leonard N. Martin on April 22, 1944 and settled in Woodstock where she resided for the past 61 years. During her lifetime, Mr. and Mrs. Martin raised 4 children and 22 foster children. Mrs. Martin worked as a home health care giver for over 60 years and was a constant inspiration to all she met. She had an avid passion for reading and enjoyed a life-long desire to learn. She and dad loved to square dance and go to Cape Cod for their summer vacation with all the family. She served as a 4-H leader and was an active member of the Ladies' Benevolent Society and the First Congregational Church of Dudley, MA. She is survived by her husband Leonard, her daughters: Mona Lee of Woodstock; Anne McClellan of Burlington, VT; two sons: Leonard H. Martin of Sarasota, FL; George Martin of Boston, MA; nine grandchildren and many great- grandchildren. She loved her family more than anything and made them all feel their own passion for life in many different ways. There will be a celebration of her life at 11:00 AM Saturday December 3rd at The First Congregational Church, 135 Center Road, Dudley, Massachusetts. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in Fabyan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hedvigs memory to Hospice of Northeastern Connecticut, P.O. Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.
