Obituary of Richard "Dick" Russo
Richard G. Russo, 58, husband of Pam (Nielson) Russo, of Laurel Hill Drive, Woodstock, CT died suddenly at home on Tuesday February 28th. Born January 3, 1948, he was the son of the late Patrick and Mary (Wyborny) Russo in Hartford.
Dick grew up in West Hartford, graduated from Hall HS in 1966, and attended Franklin & Marshall College. Dick served as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps from 1966-1970. His service included a tour in Vietnam, with commendations including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry for his heroic conduct. He was self employed, with previous positions including co-site manager of Roseland Cottage, and Senexet House in Woodstock with his wife. Dick had strong convictions and a love of the outdoors, music, reading, cooking, and fishing. As a saxophone player, he was selected for CT All-State, played with the Marine Corps Band and Jazz Ensemble and had many opportunities including sharing the stage with Count Basie. He also enjoyed listening to Big Band music and playing and singing in a local 50s & 60s band.
He is survived by his loving wife Pam; sons Richard, his wife Bernita, and granddaughter Natalie of Katy, TX; Randy, his wife Sadie of Westminster, CO; stepsons Michael Gburski, his significant other Cheryl Navas of Santa Clara, UT; Eric Gburski, his significant other Kristen Darlington of Somerville, MA; brother Patrick, his wife Karen, of San Diego, CA.
