Obituary of Virginia Anne Chattelle

Virginia Anne Chattelle, age 73, of Prospect Street, East Woodstock, CT, died Wednesday at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Normand Chattelle, they were married July 9, 1955 and celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on July 9, 2005. She was born in Florence, KA on April 29, 1932, daughter of the late Julius and Edna (Rowland) Larsen. She graduated from Allen Rural High School in 1950, and from the Newman Hospital School of Nursing, Emporia, Kansas, in 1953. She was a Registered Nurse, working as a Supervisor at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam for 40 years, retiring in 1995. She was a communicant of Most Holy Trinity Church, Pomfret, and a member of St. Monicas Guild. She was the Team Captain for Norms Harem Relay for Life for the last 7 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed flower gardening, and time working on the family farm. In addition to her husband, she leaves her children; Toni Ritchie and her husband Dennis of Brooklyn, Loretta Chattelle and her husband Gordon Hardy of Greenfield, MA, David Chattelle and his wife Cathy of Terryville, Joanne Eichner and her husband Steve of Columbia, Michael Chattelle and his wife Rose of Woodstock, Barbara Kellener and her husband Jeffrey of Woodstock Valley, Thomas Chattelle and his wife Mary of Coventry, grandchildren; Brian and Kathleen Ritchie, Jessica and Amanda Chattelle, Christopher and Sara Eichner, Allison, Emma, and Keegan Kellener, Mathieu and Samual Chattelle, Jessica Coilbert, great grandchildren; Julia, Jared, and Jacob Ritchie, brothers; Lewis Larsen of OH, Willard Larsen of KA, sisters; Jeraldine Sprouse of CA, Esther Veakly of KA. She was predeceased by sister Betty Boline. The Funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 pm at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 pm at Most HolyTrinity Church, 568 Pomfret Street, Pomfret. Calling hours will be Friday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmvale Cemetery, Woodstock. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of Northeastern Connecticut, P.O. Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.
