Obituary of Charles W. Place

Charles W. Place, 80, of Messier Road, North Grosvenordale, CT, died Sunday at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, MA. He was the beloved husband of Anita (Picard) Place, they were married June 25, 1949. He was born March 23, 1925 in Woodstock, son of the late George and Harriett Morgan. Charles worked at the Button Shop in Putnam and also at National Chromium in Putnam, retiring at age 66 after 20 years. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army. He made his home in Thompson all of his life and enjoyed gardening, hunting fishing and especially spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife he leaves his children and their spouses: Cynthia LaBonte of Putnam; Peter and Audrey Place of Putnam; Karen and Lucien Lapalme of Thompson; Donald Place of North Oxford, MA; David and Karen Place of Thompson, grandchildren: Scott; Jenn; Heidi; Peter; Andrew; Elizabeth; Jessica, great granddaughter Kiara, brothers: Harry Place of Woodstock, Fred Morgan of Putnam, sister: Evelyn Apley of Pomfret, several nieces and nephews, predeceased by a brother, Albert Morgan and a sister Dorothy Guertin. Calling hour Wednesday 10:00 to 11:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Burial in West Thompson Cemetery, Thompson. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash Street, East Hartford, CT 06108-2372.
