Obituary of A. Lee Burris
A. Lee Burris, 68, of Maple Street, Danielson, formerly of Cambridge OH, died Sunday at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center after a short illness. He was born December 16, 1937 in Cambridge OH, son of the late Carey Burris and Vera (Bonnell) Burris.
He had made his home in Danielson for over forty years. Lee was employed as a Sales Engineer at Delta Rubber Co. in Danielson for 36 years. Lee was an active member of the Danielson United Methodist Church in Danielson, a member of the Church Choir and Choir Director for many years. He was a member of the Ecumenical Choir and enjoyed listening to Gospel Music. A life member of the Danielson Lodge of Elks, #1706 and served as Chaplain and Lecturing Knight. He was a Past President of the Springtime Festival and served as the Master of Ceremonies of the Queens Pageant for several years. Lee was an avid boater for the last 25 years, spending many summers in the Watch Hill area and in his youth he enjoyed speedboat racing and raced in Ohio and the Midwest for many years. He held the world powerboat record in the A2 class for a short time. He served in the US Army in the 1960s.
Lee leaves his children Faith Ann Rudick of West Palm Beach, FL, Matthew Burris of Danielson, a granddaughter Amy Rudick of West Palm Beach, FL, his former wife Marilyn (DeBolt) Wild of Danielson, a brother Gene Burris of Cambridge, OH, a step-mother Helen Burris of Cambridge, OH, several step siblings in Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service will be 6:00 pm, Thursday June 1st, at the Danielson United Methodist Church, 9 Spring Street, Danielson. Calling hours Wednesday 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lees memory to the Elks National Foundation, c/o Danielson Elks, Frank Hegedus, 13 Center St., Danielson, CT 06239.
