Obituary of Donald J. Weidman CMDR
Donald Joseph Weidman, 90, of Woodstock, Lt. Commander US Navy retired, died September 7, 2006 at the Oakwood Nursing Home in Webster, MA. He was the beloved husband of 65 years of Jane (Farrell) Weidman.
He graduated in 1939 from Lawrence College in Appleton, WI, with a degree in Economics. In 1942 he was appointed an Ensign in the USN and attended Harvard University for training in communication and codes. He spent three years in the Pacific and left the Navy after WWII. He stayed in the Reserves and re-entered the service in 1946. In 1955 he earned an MBA from George Washington University in Washington, DC. His tour of duties included Truk Island, Japan, California and Virginia. He retired from the Navy in 1964 after achieving the rank of Lt. Commander. After his retirement he was appointed Assistant Treasurer at the Navy Federal Credit Union where he worked for two years. He then aspired to teach in a small college and in 1965 he came to Nichols College in Dudley, MA. He retired in 1978 as an Associate Professor of Management. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He loved to travel, spending the winters in Key Largo, FL and the summers at Papoose Pond in Waterford, ME with his wife and grandchildren. He was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, Jane, he leaves a daughter, Catherine W. Joyal of Danielson, a son, Thomas J. Weidman of Woodstock, two grandchildren, Geoffrey Joyal and Rebecca Weidman Quade, three great grandchildren, Anthony Joyal, Katie and Allie Quade.
