Marion Wheeler (DeWitt) Fillmore, age 99, formerly of Presque Isle, Maine died September 12, 2006 at the home of her daughter Addie Louise Hoyt in Danielson, CT. Marion was born June 14, 1907 in Easton, Maine, the eldest daughter of the late Nettie Edna (Wheeler) DeWitt and Fred Parker DeWitt. Marion graduated from Presque Isle High School, class of 1924. She attended a six week course at Aroostook State Normal School, receiving a ‘Special Teachers’ Certificate. Her first teaching position was in Caswell, Maine that fall. In 1942, Marion started work at the Presque Isle Post Office. In 1947 she returned to teaching; she graduated from Aroostook State Teachers College in 1954. She retired from teaching in 1974. Marion also taught piano and organ; directed the Bell Choir at the Methodist Church where she was a member. She was a member of the Maine Teachers Association. Marion is survived by her sons, DeWitt C. Fillmore and his wife Anita of Greensboro, NC; Jerre N. Fillmore and his wife Elizabeth of Danielson; daughter Addie Louise Hoyt of Danielson; Two sisters, Hazel Schofield and Thelma Graves both of Framingham, MA; 13 grandchildren, Kerry Jo (Fillmore) Sparks of Monticello, FL; Kent Fillmore of Leroy, MI; Jan (Fillmore) Burbage of W. Columbia, SC; Kim (Fillmore) Cornish of Topsham, ME; Jan (Fillmore) Wilmer of Charlottesville, VA; Ellen (Hoyt) Jenkins of Toney, AL; Dr. P. Arthur Hoyt, Jr. of Yorktown, VA; Mark Hoyt of Brooklyn; Paul Hoyt of Vernon; Nancy (Hoyt) Gaudreau of Danielson; Keith Hoyt of Brooklyn; Jerre D. Fillmore of Danielson and Mark G. Fillmore of Danielson, 34 great grandchildren, 11 great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Walter L. Fillmore, son Walter F. Fillmore, two sisters Edna Mae Rowe, Ada Louise Phipps, and one brother, Frank Clifford DeWitt, daughter-in-law Dawn (Dozier) Landers and son-in-law Philip A. Hoyt. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life on Thursday evening from 6 to 7 PM at the United Methodist Church of Danielson, 9 Spring Street, Danielson, followed by a memorial service at 7PM with the Rev Dan Ames officiating. Family and friends are invited to greet the family Saturday September 16, 2006 from 10 to 11 AM at the United Methodist Church in Presque Isle, ME followed by a Memorial Service at 11 AM with Rev. David Williams officiating, internment will follow at Fairmont Cemetery.
