Obituary of Joseph H. Parent
Joseph H. Parent, age 87, of Route 171, South Woodstock, died Tuesday, December 12, 2006 afternoon, at the Haven Health Care in Danielson. He was the beloved husband of Esther (Thomas) Parent; they were married December 27, 1946 in Norte Dame Church in Southbridge. He was born November 30, 1919 in Millville, Mass, son of the late Edmond and Rose (Lafleur) Parent.
He had made his home in South Woodstock since 1955, his hobbies included Go-Kart Racing, Horses, and Small engine repair. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army from 1939 and was honorably discharged in 1945, a member of the VFW in Putnam, a life member of the Tri-State Kart Club. He was also a member of the Woodstock Volunteer Fire Department, Eastern Connecticut Police Association and served the Town of Woodstock as a constable for over 25 years. He worked as a carpenter and truck driver, working for S. A. S., Gus Stromberg Builders and retired in 1984 from J. H. C. in Manchester.
He leaves his wife, his children: Robert J. Parent of S. Woodstock; Doreen McGuire and her husband David of Stafford Springs; two brothers: Leo Parent and his wife Leonie of Fiskdale, MA; Lucien Parent and his wife Eleanor of Midlothian, VA; grandchildren: Angela Wheeler and her husband Christopher of Enfield; Alexander J. Salony of Stafford Springs; David McGuire, Jr. of Rockville; Jessica McGuire of Stafford Springs; Aaron Parent of S. Woodstock; great grandchildren: Kaylie Wheeler; Jaden Wheeler; his sisters-in-law: Pauline Angelo of Putnam; Olga Petluch of Fayban; Helen Thomas of Fayban: Annette Thomas of Fayban; Gertrude Parent of Southbridge, MA; He was predeceased by his siblings: Amie Parent; Eva Lamontagne; Albert Parent; Rita Poulin; Rene Parent.
The Funeral Service will be Friday, December 15, 2006 at 11:00 am at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Calling Hours Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in Webster, MA, with military honors.
