Obituary of Eileen M. DiCola

Eileen M. DiCola, 89, of Cornfield Point, Woodstock, CT and formerly of West Hartford and Warwick, RI, died peacefully Sunday afternoon surrounded by her family at the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home. Wife of George DiCola. She was born December 19, 1917, Warwick, RI, daughter of the late John J.and Pearl (Steele) McCabe. She has made her home in Woodstock since 1998, after living in West Harford for many years. After receiving a Bachelors Degree from Rhode Island College of Education, she taught 1st grade in the Town of West Warwick. During World War Two she worked as a Librarian in the Indianapolis Public Library. In 1954 she returned east and settled with her husband Hector Chauvin in West Hartford, She worked as a Librarian in all 3 branches of the West Hartford Public Library in the children's section. Over the years, she presented Story Hour and introduced many children's programs to the Public Schools. She enjoyed music and was a long time member of the "Organizers", a group of keyboard enthusiasts. She and her late husband, Harold Goff, volunteered their time playing music in many area nursing homes. She also helped run Goff Organ Service of West Hartford for many years. She was a great fan of UCONN Basketball. She leaves in addition to her husband George, a daughter Madeleine Miragliuolo and her husband Joseph of Pomfret Center; one sister: Monica O'Neill of Warwick; stepchildren: Michael DiCola: Dana DiCola: William Goff: Janet Vumbach; Alex Goff, several grandchildren including Susannah Miragliuolo of Hartford; Nicola Miragliuolo of Pomfret. She was predeceased two sisters: Margaret Derring, Madeline Geoffrey and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Goff. The Funeral will be 9:30 AM Thursday from the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Most Holy Trinity Church, 568 Pomfret Street, Pomfret. Calling Hours will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Smith & Walker funeral Home, Putnam. Private burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, please donations can be made to the Bracken Memorial Library Renovation Fund c/o Woodstock Academy, 57 Academy Rd., Woodstock, CT 06281
