Obituary of Ethel G. Anderson

Ethel G. Anderson, 83, of Woodstock, CT., died Monday July 21, 2008 at Matulaitis Nursing Home after a long battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul E. Anderson who passed away in 1994. They were married August 23, 1947 in New York City. Mrs. Anderson was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on February 11, 1925, daughter of the late Gustaf and Alma (Gustavsson) Gustafson. She was a graduate of Walton High School and Hunter College in New York, and received her master's degree in education from Columbia University. Mrs. Anderson taught in the Westchester County, N.Y. school system for 8 years before she and her family moved to Woodstock, CT. in 1957. That same year, she accepted a teaching position at the Pomfret Community School where she taught second grade for 27 years, retiring in 1984. Mrs. Anderson was a longtime member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Woodstock, CT. where she enjoyed playing the piano for Vacation Bible School and the Ladies Aid Society. In addition to her late husband, a son, Wayne G. Anderson, predeceased her in 1972. Mrs. Anderson is survived by a son, Glenn Anderson and his wife, Ingrid of Woodstock; a grandson, Erik Anderson, and his wife, Sarah, of East Haddam, CT; a granddaughter, Kristina Brubaker, and her husband, Chad, of Elizabethtown, PA; a granddaughter, Karin Anderson, of Woodstock, CT; and two great-granddaughters, Hannah Brubaker and Julie Anderson. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 25, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the South Woodstock Baptist Church, 23 Roseland Park Road, Woodstock, CT. Burial in Elmvale Cemetery, Woodstock.
