Obituary of R. Philip Goyette, M.D.
Dr. R. Philip Goyette, 73, of Killingly, Connecticut died March 6, 2009 of complications from congestive heart failure. Phil was born and raised in Moosup, CT, and was the eldest son of Romain Omar Goyette, DMD. He attended Assumption Preparatory School and Assumption College. He attended medical school at Georgetown University and interned at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport, CT. He began his medical practice in 1962 and was the founding partner of Putnam Medical Associates. He was an active member of the Day Kimball Hospital Medical staff throughout his career. He served as Chief of Medicine, President of the Medical Staff, and as a member of the Board of Directors.
Dr. Goyette will be remembered as the consummate family practitioner who cared for multiple generations. His practice included serving as physician for Putnam and Thompson public schools, Rectory School, Windham County Jail, and numerous local companies and nursing care facilities. He will be remembered for serving his patients faithfully with the highest quality of care.
Phil was a longtime Patriots fan and season ticket holder who attended many Superbowls. He enjoyed reading, tennis, golf, hunting and fishing. He traveled frequently with family and friends. His children will cherish their memories of family reunions in the Caribbean, Rhode Island, Boston, and at Alexander's Lake.
He is survived by daughters Michele Goyette-Ewing of Woodbridge, CT, Elise Goyette of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, and Denise Meagher of Shrewsbury, MA; his longtime companion Lenore Gudmundson; six grandchildren; and his siblings, Paul Goyette, Theresa Cwynar, and Roland Goyette; he was predeceased by his sister Jeanne Bergeron, his father, his mother Lillian nee Gauthier, and his stepmother Marguerite nee Fontaine.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM at the Congregational Church of Putnam, 175 Main Street, Putnam. Calling hours Tuesday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam.
